Simon Draper Presents Inaugural Richard J. Meyer Endowed Lecture

The Inaugural Richard J. Meyer Endowed Lecture, featuring Dr. Simon J. Draper, Professor of Vaccinology and Translational Medicine in the Department of Biochemistry, University of Oxford, England was recently held Oct. 17, 2023. The title of Dr. Draper’s lecture was Advances in Vaccines and Antibodies for Blood-Stage Human Malaria.

SAVE THE DATE: Dr. Andrew Pekosz to Speak at 2024 LaMontagne Annual Symposium

Dr. Andrew Pekosz, Ph.D. will be the keynote speaker at the 2024 John Ring LaMontagne Annual Keynote Lecture and Symposium which will be held March 26, 2024 at 3:00 pm in the Connally Ballroom of the Etter-Harbin Alumini Center on the UT Campus. The title of his lecture will be Virus Surveillance and the Identification of Novel Genetic Mutations that Facilitate Virus Circulation.

Vernita Gordon

Gordon Selected as American Physical Society Fellow

LCID Faculty member Vernita Gordon, Associate Professor of Physics, was recently selected as a fellow of the American Physical Society. Gordon was recognized “for fundamental contributions to the understanding of the role of physical properties in the development of bacterial biofilms and the interactions of biofilms with the immune system,” according to the APS website.

P. aeruginosa

Fall LCID Blog Post Features Sullivan Lab Research on P. aeruginosa

This month’s blog features the work of  scientists who are trying to understand one way in which the pathogenic bacterium Pseudomonas aeruginosa distinguishes between whether it will cause short infection or long, sustained infection. This work was conducted by a collaborative team that featured LCID Professor Chris Sullivan and Interdisciplinary Life Sciences Graduate Program (ILSGP) student Kayla Szymanik, along with their collaborators at Georgia Tech, Texas Tech, Emory University, Binghamton University, and the Mayo Clinic.
