Walter L. Fast, LCID Faculty member and Pharmacy professor, passed away on December 4, 2023 after a brief illness. Dr. Fast was the Division Head and Professor of Chemical Biology & Medicinal Chemistry, William I. Dismukes Fellow, and Southwestern Drug Corporation Centennial Endowed Fellow in Pharmacy. He first joined UT Austin in 2002 as an Assistant Professor in Pharmacy. Dr. Fast was part of the LCID Faculty from its beginning in 2013 and served on the LCID Advisory Board from 2014-2017. His research focused on enzymes as targets for possible new drugs and sought to develop alternate ways to treat antibiotic-resistant bacteria. This past fall he was recognized with the 2023-24 College of Pharmacy Excellence in Graduate Teaching and Mentoring Award. He will be greatly missed.
